The EFL rule change which could affect QPR, Brentford and Millwall on Championship's last day

The final day of the Championship season is upon us and with that away and with that a number of sides will find out their fate.

While QPR, Brentford and Millwall will have little to play for other than pride, others in the division such as Derby County, Middlesbrough and Bristol City who are hoping to end the day in a play-off spot.

That last position could result in a last-ditch attempt to reach the Premier League, meaning that the stakes on the final day of the season are typically high.

This means that numerous clubs will need to be aware of a new EFL regulation.

The newly introduced rule prevents bosses from making large alterations to their teams in the final weeks of the season.

EFL issue stark warning to QPR, Millwall and their Championship rivals over pitch invasions

Back in 2017 Huddersfield Town made ten changes to their starting XI for their penultimate game of the season against Birmingham City.

Birmingham won that game 2-0 to take a big leap towards Championship safety. But the other clubs fighting the drop were furious with David Wagner’s team selection.

As a direct response to that game a vote was taken among EFL clubs and a new rule was brought into play.

How Brentford, Millwall and QPR compare for the fees paid to agents over the past year

The policy states: “For any league match played on or after the fourth Thursday in March, any team sheet for a league game should include at least 10 outfield players who featured on the team sheet for the league match before.”

The EFL added: “In the event any club breaches the threshold, they may be charged with a breach of Regulation 24 and the matter will be referred to a disciplinary commission.”
