The M4 Prince of Wales Severn Bridge will be closed three times next week

The main route into South Wales will be closed three times  this week to allow for essential maintenance.

Highways England is shutting the M4 Severn Bridge for planned roadworks to take place.

The resurfacing will be carried out 8pm to 6am, on Friday March 1. The popular bridge will then be shut on Friday night at 8pm until 6am the following day.

A final closure is scheduled for Sunday from 8pm until 6am on Monday.

Traffic will be diverted to the M48 throughout the advertised works

The authority tweeted: "M4 J23 to J22 Eastbound Prince of Wales Bridge Closed this evening for #PlannedRoadworks from 8pm to 6am. Diversion will be via the #M48. @TrafficWales."

Traffic monitoring site Inrix says: "M4 Prince of Wales Bridge Eastbound closed due to resurfacing work during the night from J23 M48 to J22 M49. From 20:00 on 28th February to 6:00 on 1st March."
