The London Underground line that is nearly 40C during the heatwave

  • Temperatures on the London Underground reached almost 40C on Wednesday, making it the hottest June day on record.
  • Readings taken on the Central line, one of the capital's busiest, showed highs of 39.4C.
  • Despite the extreme heat, commuters continued to use the Tube , with some noting air conditioning in their offices.
  • Air-conditioned lines, such as the Metropolitan and Elizabeth lines, recorded temperatures around 22C, but only 40 per cent of trains currently have air conditioning.
  • The full list of readings were – Elizabeth line: 22.6C, Metropolitan, Circle and District line: 22.7C, Victoria line: 33.6C, Piccadilly line: 33.7C, Jubilee line: 37.2C and Central line: 39.4C.
