Sporty people in Fashion? Nah, not a happy marriage usually. But here’s Amy Williams, Olympian, gold-medallist and now a certified “Fashionable” thanks to her appearance at the launch of London fashion week on Friday. Williams is rocking a pair of wide palazzo deco-printed pants and matching silk top by British designer Holly Fulton. It’s not an easy look to pull off, but Williams makes it work because of her confident, stand-up-straight physique – there’s a style lesson in there for sure. Dutch-born Fashion East alumnus Michael Van der Ham now makes dresses for Björk, which is totally next level. If you’re not in a position to afford his sumptuous main line or commission your own frock like our Icelandic friend, then it’s Topshop to the rescue. MVDH has designed a six-piece capsule collection for the store, including this signature modern patchwork velvet dress, which not only colour clashes but texture blocks. There are also fabulous cocktail trousers in vivid pink and blue. Go!

JW Anderson is one big buzz right now. Saturday saw his second women’s catwalk show and on Wednesday his men’s label will kick off menswear day. The designer is also creative director for Sunspel and designs for Topman’s Lens collection, which for autumn includes this wool trench and Lurex knit alongside a floral jumper that is already a Twitter hit. The Briefing would also like to mention his mainline men’s paisley trousers – quite special.

These gorgeous high-waisted wool shorts with patent leather waistband in dark marine are just the sort of thing you’d expect to see flitting about London fashion week. Remember: shorts are no longer summer-only. These are by Richard Nicoll, from his second Laurel Wreath collection for Fred Perry, which also includes a banging dark sherry patent mini and a shiny short shearling biker jacket.

Christopher Kane shows his new collection today. It’s his fifth year of showing in London. He has become one of the week’s biggest draws, with the backing of Anna Wintour and Donatella Versace. He has brilliantly referenced dinosaurs, pencil cases, the film Carrie, Princess Margaret and a photo of Nancy Reagan on the White House lawn. His current autumn/winter collection, featuring wavy gel details, crochet and fish-scaly sequins, demonstrates this formula of bringing together unusual ideas to create truly original clothes. High-five Mr Kane. Photograph: PR
