The latest coronavirus infection rates across Greater Manchester as numbers continue to fall

The latest coronavirus infection rates across Greater Manchester show Salford remains the borough which has the highest rate.

On Thursday, Salford had the highest infection rates in the region, as it overtook Manchester.

Rates in every area are still continuing to fall, reflecting an England-wide trend.

Figures from Public Health England show that overall the rate of infection for England is 329.5 cases per 100,000 people. This is down 28 per cent and is higher than any of the ten boroughs in Greater Manchester.

Salford is top with 325.3 cases per 100,000 population - which is a fall of 10 per cent on the previous week.

Manchester is close behind in second place at 323.8 cases per 100,000, a fall of 22 per cent.

Third is Tameside with 298.5 cases - down 14 per cent. Then Bolton with 298 cases per 100,000 - a fall of 19 per cent.

Wigan is fifth with 295.7 cases per 100,000 - down by 20 per cent. Bury is next with 280.1 cases - down 23 per cent.

Rochdale is the seventh borough with a rate of 277.9 per 100,000 - which is a drop of 17 per cent.

In eighth place, is Stockport with a rate of 277.1 - down 23 per cent.

Ninth is Trafford with 272.2 cases per 100,000 - a fall of 22 per cent.

And the tenth borough is Oldham - with a rate of 254.3 cases representing a 10 per cent drop.

Across the UK, the government said 1,245 people had died within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.

And 29,079 people tested positive across the UK in the 24-hour period to Friday.

The R rate - or rate of reproduction of the virus is estimated to be between 0.7 to 1.1 with a daily infection growth rate range of minus 5 per cent to 0 per cent as of Friday.
