Back in August, C.J. McCollum felt the heat of NBA Twitter’s roasting when an old interview surfaced of the Trail Blazers guard saying that he would never join a superteam.
As McCollum was calling out the quote’s oldness, someone jumped into his mentions with the tweet heard around NBA Twitter.
Jennifer Williams told McCollum to “win a playoff game then talk.” McCollum didn’t let it go. He responded with the super-memed “I’m trying Jennifer” tweet. The tweet has followed him all season.
Fast forward to Sunday night’s Game 7 against the Denver Nuggets, and McCollum led the Blazers with 37 points as they overcame a 17-point deficit.
When the game ended, THE Jennifer responded.
She was a good sport about her since-backfired tweet.
Jennifer knew the tweets were coming.
How could she not? There are T-shirts about the Twitter exchange. She turned the phrase into her Twitter avatar. It’s been everywhere.
Given the Blazers’ upcoming series with the Warriors, we can probably bet on hearing more about the “I’m trying Jennifer” tweet.
After all, C.J. tried for Jennifer.
