The national average price for a gallon of regular gas is holding steady this month. It's up slightly from October to $3.08, according to data gathered from AAA. If that number stays steady, prices may remain above the $3-mark for the next few months. That said, the US average doesn't reflect the significant variation seen from state to state.
Californians continue to face the steepest prices in the country, with an average of $4.68 per gallon for regular unleaded, up $0.03 from about a month ago. Hawaii isn't far behind, where drivers are paying an average of $4.45. Washington, which was ahead of California at one point this year, comes in third at $4.19 per gallon, down two cents compared to a month ago.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, drivers in several southern and central states are seeing much lower prices. Oklahoma currently has the lowest average gas prices in the nation, at $2.55 per gallon, down a penny. Mississippi is a close second with prices at $2.62 per gallon, while in Texas, the average stands at $2.65, up one cent.
Prices for mid-grade and premium gasoline have also crept upward in recent weeks. The national average for mid-grade fuel now sits at $3.58 per gallon, while premium fuel is averaging around $3.94 per gallon, up 6 and 5 cents, respectively.
Despite the small uptick, prices for regular remain lower than they were at this time last year, but mid-grade and premium prices are up. These trends offer a decent picture for consumers: Gas prices are holding steady.
