Roșie O’Donnell has been asked to return to show The View multiple times, but is unsure whether she ever would due to “tension” with fellow panellist Whoopi Goldberg.
The 64-year-old actress was on the panel of the US TV show for single seasons between 2006 to 2007 and 2014 to 2015, and was a favourite among viewers.
However, while Rosie said The View bosses have “asked me” to return to the show, things didn’t go too well between her and Sister Act star Whoopi during her last appearance.
In an interview on The Tangle podcast, Rosie said: “When I was there last I had sort of a tense time with Whoopi.”
She added that while she admires Whoopi’s “EGOT status” - referring to the fact she’s one of only 28 artists to have won an Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy during her career - she and the screen star would be like [basketball players] “Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan passing the ball back and forth and then shooting”.
Rosie mused: “But that’s not exactly what happened. And I think maybe she felt encroached upon in some way, and I was never trying to encroach.
“I was just doing it the way that I knew how to do it. And it didn’t go so well, you know. So I didn’t want it to be awkward and go on there and make it awkward.”
The awkwardness came despite the fact that when Rosie returned to The View in 2014, she went round to Whoopi’s house and “had a lovely lunch and talked about everything”.
She continued: “I thought I was going in safe and sound and it didn’t turn out that way from day one”.
One incident that left Whoopi “very upset” was when Rosie “made the mistake of throwing to a commercial when [Whoopi] was still talking”.
But Rosie added that she and Whoopi have done their best to get “past it” in the years following their appearance together on The View, because they’re “grown a** women”.
She concluded: “She’s a woman who supports women, as am I."
