The greatest Wales rugby XV ever as public vote results announced

The results are in and you have chosen your greatest Welsh rugby XV of all time.

There was a huge response to our poll, with around 15,000 people making their selections in each position from our shortlist.

Some legends were runaway winners, while in other areas of the team it was a real close call.

The two players who were well clear of the chasing pack were Gareth Edwards and JPR Williams, who both received 84 per cent of the vote at scrum-half and full-back respectively.

Gethin Jenkins was another big winner, with 74 per cent of readers opting for him at loosehead prop.

The closest clash surrounded who should partner Alun Wyn Jones in the second row. It was Bob Norster who snuck it in the end, just pipping Delme Thomas by 254 votes.

Blindside flanker was also a tight contest, with Dai “The Shadow” Morris coming out on top in the face of strong competition from the likes of Dan Lydiate, Colin Charvis and Terry Cobner.

As for the most debated position in Welsh rugby, Barry John got the nod at No 10, with 47 per cent of the vote, holding off fellow greats Phil Bennett (28%) and Jonathan Davies (20%).

Overall, it was the team of the 1970s that secured the biggest contingent with eight players on board, compared to five from the recent golden era.

Joining those then you had Norster from the 1980s and Scott Gibbs from the 1990s, two men who shone brightly in less successful periods.

So here it this then below, your chosen side. You can see a full breakdown of the voting in each position here.
