The Gray Man trailer is out: Chris Evans is out for Ryan Gosling’s blood

Get ready for the battle of the beefcakes in the latest trailer for Ryan Gosling’s film The Gray Man.

Starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, the trailer for the Netflix thriller dropped on Tuesday and promises a whole lot of action – and more than a few explosions.

“Plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy, Gentry (otherwise known as Sierra Six) was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death,” the film’s synopsis reads.

“But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen, a former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. Agent Dani Miranda has his back. He’ll need it.”

Here, Gosling is the protagonist, CIA agent Court Gentry – and the vicious killer hunting him down, Lloyd Hansen, is played by a delightfully unhinged-looking Chris Evans.

The film also boasts a star-studded supporting cast. First on the list is Ana de Armas– fresh from her star turn in as spy Paloma in the latest James Bond film No Time to Die – who plays Dani Miranda, a fellow secret agent.

Regé-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thornton, Jessica Henwick, Dhanush, Wagner Moura and Alfre Woodard also star.

In the trailer, the pair trade blows across a variety of cities around the world as the CIA seek to stop Gosling’s character from revealing the truth about dark secrets he uncovered within the organisation.

“You want to make an omelette, you got to kill some people,” Chris Evans’ character explains, adding, “I can kill anybody.”

The film itself is based on the 2009 book The Gray Man by Mark Greany and looks to follow the same basic plot – and with a whopping $200m budget, the film is also Netflix’s biggest ever.

If you were also wondering about the film’s action credits, let us put your mind at ease: it’s directed by the Russo Brothers, who previously made Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Endgame, and they expect the best.

So much so, in fact, that Regé-Jean Page described the “the freakiest thing about working on a Russo set is that the standards are so insanely high for everyone in every department.”

We can’t wait.

The Gray Man is coming out on July 15 2022, and will be released on Netflix the following week: on July 22
