The Gavin Strachan Celtic offer Barry Fry couldn't refuse as he hails 'fantastic coach'

Celtic are set to welcome Strachan back to Parkhead - ex-boss Gordon’s son Gavin.

Mailsport understands the Peterborough number two is now in pole position to fill the vacant position on Neil Lennon’s coaching staff, replacing Damien Duff.

And Posh’s director of football Barry Fry confirmed that talks have taken place between the two clubs and he won’t stand in Strachan’s way.

Gavin’s dad Gordon was Hoops gaffer for four years between 2005-09 and his boy could now follow him into the Celtic dug-out.

He was appointed as Peterborough assistant in 2019 but now Lennon is keen to bring him to Parkhead.

A financial deal is in place to secure his services and fill the gap left by Duff who took up a role with Republic of Ireland this summer.

Fry told Mailsport : “We’ve spoken to Celtic and we’re not going to stand in Gavin’s way.

“If they choose him, there’s a deal in place and it would be another great signing for Neil and Celtic.

“They’re a massive club and when Celtic come calling you can’t stand in anyone’s way.

“Gavin’s a fantastic coach. We’ll wish him and Celtic all the best.”

Strachan was a player at Coventry City and Dundee before becoming a coach.

He previously worked with current Peterbourough gaffer Darren Ferguson at Doncaster Rovers.

As well as having a Celtic connection through his dad, it’s understood that Strachan was also on the same coaching course as Lennon’s assistant, John Kennedy.
