The four areas in Leeds where Covid rates are surging - with one the worst in the country

Whilst some areas of Leeds have or are close to eradicating coronavirus altogether, other areas are way above the national average.

Tomorrow, June 21, should have been so called 'Freedom Day' but with cases rising again thanks to the Delta variant, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has delayed the further easing of restrictions by four weeks.

But before restrictions can be eased once more, cases need to be under control again.

Alarmingly, Hyde Park now has the highest case rate in the country, with Little Woodhouse, Burley and Headingley not far behind.

In data supplied by Public Health England, the rates of each area in Leeds is displayed on an interactive colour map.

Seven–day rates are expressed per 100,000 population and are calculated by dividing the seven day count by the area population and multiplying by 100,000.

Areas that are suppressed, which means there were less than three Covid cases recorded over a seven-day period, are coloured in white, but the more alarming areas are coloured in blue and purple.

Hyde Park has the worst infection rate in the whole of the city at 1,393.6 per 100,000 people and is in dark purple.

Total cases in the last seven days to June 15 come to 148, which is up by 120.9 per cent from the last count.

Hyde Park Corner and Woodhouse Cliff is up next with a rate of 1,065.3 per 100,000 people.

Burley's rate comes in at 513.9 per 100,000 and is coloured in purple.

Little Woodhouse which also includes University, has a rate of 488.3 meaning it falls into the next category down, at a lighter shade of purple.

The total cases here come to 56.
