The First Descendant overhauls Amorphous Materials to improve farming

The First Descendant overhauls the Amorphous Material system to make farming components for a specific Descendant, Ultimate weapon, or fellow, easier.

In a blog post on May 14, The First Descendant detailed the changes coming to Amorphous Materials in the May 21 update. The update replaces old Amorphous Materials with new, overhauled ones. New Amorphous Materials contain components for specific Descendants, Ultimate weapons, or Fellows (alongside drops like Energy Activator blueprints).

Previously, an Amorphous Material could drop components for different Descendants or weapons. To research one Descendant, you had to farm multiple different Amorphous Materials and hope to get the right drop. Now, one Amorphous Material offers everything you need.

Here’s a comparison of old and new Amorphous Materials:

Old Amorphous Material (Amorphous Material Pattern:
003 Components)
Overhauled Amorphous Material (Amorphous Material Pattern:
Harris Components)
Jayber Enhanced Cell Blueprint
Enzo Enhanced Cell Blueprint
Crystallization Catalyst Blueprint
Albion Cavalry Gun Nano Tube Blueprint
Nazeistra’s Devotion Polymer Syncytium Blueprint
Harris Code
Harris Spiral Catalyst
Harris Stabilizer
Harris Enhanced Cells
Energy Activator Blueprint

This should reduce the randomness and complexity of grinding different Amorphous Materials to research a new Descendant or a weapon. It also appears that the drops for newer Descendants and weapons will be bundled up into overhauled Amorphous Materials.

Not all Amorphous Materials will receive an overhauled counterpart. However, because old Amorphous Materials will no longer be obtainable, the developer introduces Archive Shards.

Archive Shards drop from Infiltration Operations on Hard difficulty and above. They can be used as a substitute for the core components when researching some Descendants and Ultimate weapons. On top of that, Archive Shards can replace weapon and reactor enhancement materials.

Changes to the Amorphous Materials alongside the full release of the Onslaught mode, Ultimate Esiemo, and more are coming to The First Descendant on May 21.
