The First Descendant‘s next update brings something we have been asking for a while now: old fields in new and relevant content. This comes on top of multiple character and weapon updates, quality-of-life changes, and, of course, cosmetics.
The update is launching on Jan. 15, and during the livestream on Jan. 13, The First Descendant developer showcased everything we can expect, including the new Breach Tracking dungeon. As promised back in December, Breach Tracking randomly selects one of the old fields (White-night Gulch, Vespers, or Fortress) and field missions for you to run.

Breach Tracking is designed primarily for Gold farming. But you can earn additional rewards by opening reward boxes at the end using new keys that drop from Colossi, either in Void Intercept Battles, on Axion Plains, or in the Wall Crasher fight. The boxes grant more Gold, Superconductive Cooling Units, and several materials needed to research some of the latest Descendants and Ultimate weapons. Even though Breach Tracking is a farming activity on older maps, the difficulty is the same as in the Axion Plains, so make sure to build your characters accordingly before heading into the dungeon.
As of right now, old fields serve almost no purpose if you have completed the main story. The new loop begins to address that while also involving Void Intercept Battles, which are also due for a rework later this year. It’s unclear if more fields will be added to the dungeon later, but the developer acknowledged that areas like Kingston, Hagios, and others are underused in new content.

Apart from the new dungeon, Enzo is the star of the monthly balance adjustment, receiving major buffs to his core kit and Transcendent Modules. The goal of the rework is to make Enzo a strong firearm damage dealer while also having decent skill damage. Similarly, Jayber also received a few adjustments to make him a weapon and skill hybrid.
When it comes to Ultimate weapons, Thunder Cage is making a return with a rework to its passive ability. It now inflicts Overcharge upon hitting an enemy, and hitting an Overcharged enemy brings down a rain of lightning. Other weapons that received significant buffs include Greg’s Reversed Fate, Afterglow Sword, and Nazeistra’s Devotion.
The rest of the update features damage buffs to swords, new Descendant Modules, idol outfits for multiple characters, a skill quick cast feature, and events to prepare for the February update.
