The Fiat Topolino EV is coming to the US next year — here's what the little car can do, and how much it might cost

Fiat Topolino.

The Italian car maker Fiat announced this week that its super tiny Topolino electric car is coming to the United States next year. The small EV debuted in 2023 as a rebranded Citron Ami with slight upgrades to its range and motor.

Currently, Fiat only sells one car model in the U.S. the zippy 500e which is the smallest all-electric car you can buy on the market. It’s not quite one of the best electric cars, but from tip to tail, the 500e is just 143 inches. The Topolino lops off 43 inches, making this Fisher Price car only a foot longer than the 7’4” Victor Wembayana of the San Antonio Spurs.

Interestingly, in Europe, the Topolino is considered a quadricycle and not a car. That’s probably due to the single 8-horsepower electric motor and a Stewart Little-sized 5.5kWh battery it’s carrying. For comparison, the 500e features a 37 kWh battery with a range of 149 miles that delivers 117 hp performance.

Fiat’s announcement came during Art Week in Miami (via CarandDriver) when Fiat CEO Olivier François said, "I’m happy to share that we’ll be bringing the Fiat Topolino to the U.S., with more details to come next year."

What is the Topolino capable of?

The teensy-weensy Topolino can only hit a top speed of around 28 mph and has a claimed range of 47 miles in Europe. Whenever this car arrives stateside, it is clearly not meant to go on the highway.

If anything, this go-kart-sized car seems purpose-built for retirement communities in Arizona and Florida, where the average car is a golf cart. For reference, according to Golf Cart Garage, the average cart, gas or electric, ranges between 94.5 and 118 inches in length and around 47 inches wide. Speed-wise, most golf carts don’t exceed 15 mph without modifications, though some can reach up to 25 mph and are more city street legal.

Potential Pricing

Using the Italian Fiat site, the Topolino costs about €9890, around $11,500, for the base model. That would be a nice price for an affordable car, but the best electric scooters are faster and way cheaper than the Topolino.

Our pick for the best e-scooter, the Segway E3 Pro, has a max speed of 20 mph, a range of 34 miles, and will only set you back $599. The Fiat 500 pictured above goes for around $28,000.

That $11,500 is once again very comparable to electric golf carts. One company we see recommended on lists and Reddit is EZ-Go. It sells a two-seater electric RXV 2 cart that starts at $8,824, while the more upgraded RXV 4 fetches for $9,749.

We’ll know more details in 2026 when Fiat plans to launch the Topolino in the U.S.
