Say what you like about her husband’s political party, but Mrs Cameron gave good fashion frock at the recent Elle Style Awards. The navy silk dress (pictured) by Roksanda Ilincic (she unveils her new collection in London tomorrow) was an elegant triumph with simple styling. Naturally, as a fashion week ambassador, Cameron is obliged to fly the flag, but it’s an example other style-leading Brits could do well to follow. Why the marvellous Alexa Chung chose to wear YSL to present said awards remains a mystery. Answers on a postcard please. Photograph: Doug Peters/Empics Entertainment
Last September Christopher Kane wowed audiences with his neon Princess Margaret collection. Where he goes next is anyone’s guess but it will be revealed on a catwalk today. In the meantime, the clashing of one super bright with another is fashion shorthand for getting the London look. If you can wait until next month, this natty Whistles jacket with royal tendencies and acid pinkness is a brilliantly fitting homage. Loud.

Headgear is quite fashion weeky. Think fruit on your head (Anna Dello Russo), a chin-strap (Victoria Beckham’s catwalk show) or a maxi-striped fiesta Prada sombrero (get this look at Debenhams). Or try: 1. The True Grit look, as modelled by Hailee Steinfeld, and likely to be picked up at vintage stores. 2. A Warehouse boater. So Very English Country Garden Fabulous. But whatever you choose, be sure to wear it in Covent Garden, where apparently Anna Wintour trend spots.

Fashion industry types love Nicholas Kirkwood’s shoes. For comfort. Yes, these look ludicrously tall but it’s exciting to support British talent, even if it involves staggering. NK is opening a shop in Mayfair soon – the shoes will sit in cracks in the walls. And he does catwalk shoes for New Yorkers Rodarte, London designers Erdem and Peter Pilotto. Plus there’s a collaboration with the Keith Haring Foundation featuring squiggly heels. Bravo!
