The fashion briefing

The briefing: Agyness Deyn
We’re expecting to see Agy at House of Holland later today and, presuming she hasn’t changed it again (always a chance), we’ll be giving the new black bowl cut a closer inspection. It’s certainly, in terms of autumn’s mood, along the right lines – but there is something about its seriousness that’s vaguely freaking us out. Those ludicrous lace sleeves aren’t helping. The briefing: Hamish Bowles
Hamish Bowles is the European editor-at-large on American Vogue – and is no doubt hanging out somewhere at London Fashion Week as we speak, with his boss Ms Wintour, who has jetted in for the event. We love Hamish’s signature blend of European-eccentric: the double-breasted suit, the jaunty tie and the very “Berlin” tache. We also adored having a nosey around his Parisian apartment in this month’s World of Interiors. Best line: “Naturally, what I coveted was a ballroom with a boudoir attached.” Us too, Hamish. The briefing: Hermès Tonight shoe
Are peep-toe, lace-up-your-foot-type shoes the latest to covet? Well, if Carine Roitfeld, editor-in-chief of French Vogue, thinks so, who are we to argue? Yes, they might be draughty and, yes, the Tonight shoe by Hermès (our favourite, pictured) costs £860, but no one ever said life under the glare of fashion’s spotlight was easy. Or cheap. The briefing: Holly Fulton clutch
Holly Fulton was one of the emerging stars from last season’s Fashion East collective. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, her signature look (she’s described it as “art deco on crack”) revolves around clothing featuring brightly coloured plastic tiles and stonking great jewel embellishments. This clutch is fabulously eyecatching, original and rather on trend with it’s adorned surface. £225, from Browns Focus Tel: 020-7514 0063 Photograph: Linda Nylind
The briefing: Matthew Williamson jacket from Butterfly collection at Debenhams
Matthew Williamson showed in London again yesterday, so news that this jacket, from his Butterfly collection at Debenhams, arrives in stores this week is timely. Said jacket is also very French Voguer front row, non? The cut and detail on the collar and lapel is impressive, given the affordable price tag. Jacket, £80. The briefing: Prada autumn/winter2003
There are various levels of excitement in fashion, with that for Prada at the very top end of the scale. News that the label is launching a made-to-measure shirting service has left members of the Briefing unable to fully function. From the end of October, you’ll be measured, can choose from three shirt shapes, six collar types and five cuff variations (you can basically pretend you’re Mrs Prada for the afternoon) – and here’s the best bit: you can select fabrics seen in previous collections! We’ve settled on autumn/winter 2003. From £240. Tel: 020-7647 5000 Photograph: PR handout
The briefing: Rouge vanity case
Fashion madness ...
... but done in the best possible taste. Meet the creative love child of Globetrotter (marvellous luggage brand) and Erdem (hot London designer showing tomorrow). Where to begin with this rouge vanity case? Probably its divine Erdem signature modern floral-print interior silk-satin lining. The collaboration also bears the fruit of wheelie suitcases. Hours of glamming up a ride on a cheap flight guaranteed. £425, netaporter.com
