The factor 'stopping' Manchester United from signing Matthijs de Ligt

Manchester United's failure to secure Champions League football next season could prove to be even more costly over the summer, as reports say that will rule them out of signing Matthijs de Ligt.

United have been linked with the Ajax centre back but now they’re out of the race according to Marca .

De Ligt had been tipped to join Barcelona, but United have been considered as having an outside chance to sign the 19-year-old.

However, the report now says United are out of the race with only Barcelona and PSG left fighting for his signature.

Another report, in Sport , says De Ligt himself has ruled out a move to United.

The report says United are likely to ‘give up’ as they are unable to offer De Ligt Champions League football, with PSG or Liverpool his most likely destination.

Meanwhile, Alexis Sanchez's hopes of leaving Old Trafford may be in doubt as a report says Atletico Madrid are reluctant to pay all of his wages.

The Times say Atletico are interested in signing Sanchez this summer to end his nightmare 18 months at the club, but his wage demands are not something they can match.

The report says Atletico are looking at a deal that would see United subsidise some of Sanchez’s wages.
