The estate set to be KNOCKED DOWN to tackle anti-social behaviour

A Merseyside estate could be torn down in an effort to tackle anti-social behaviour that blights the area around it.

Huyton's Reeds Court could be demolished after Knowsley Council set aside money in its budget this year to look at transforming the site.

It comes as part of a larger package to try and tackle anti-social behaviour in the borough.

Those plans have also recently seen a new team sent out to tackle the problems in Knowsley - and will see people armed with cameras to try and crack down on fly tipping.

The council hasn't released many details about what will eventually happen to Reeds Court - or when demolition could take place.

A spokeswoman said a full masterplan for the area around the estate, which is on Reeds Road, is set to be developed later this year.

The council's budget, which set aside the anti-social behaviour funding, was passed earlier this month.

The borough also committee to putting money towards education and leisure facilities in the borough.

Speaking after the budget approval Knowsley's cabinet member for resources Jayne Aston said the council was investing 'in initiatives that will have a positive impact on our local communities'.

Councillor Aston said: “Addressing anti-social behaviour, improving educational outcomes for our children and young people as well as accelerating investment and growth in our borough are all key priorities for the council, our local residents and businesses.

“I’m delighted that an investment package to address these issues has been approved and I look forward to seeing the impact this investment has over the coming months and years.”
