The Eight ‘Destiny 2’ Non-Sunsetting Weapons I’m Using For ‘Beyond Light’

Well, I just went and cleaned out my vault of around 100 units of junk because it was full. And by “junk” a mean a lot of weapons that are solid rolls, but are getting sunset and I just know I won’t use, probably even in non-power enabled activities just because I like having high numbers.

That got me thinking about what isn’t going away yet, and what treasures I am going to be starting Beyond Light with on day one. Here are eight of my favorite guns in Destiny 2, a few all-time favorites, a few others here mainly because they’re not being sunset. You can’t grind for all of these at this point as some have gone away, but others, feel free to.

Here’s my current non-exotic arsenal that I’m rocking both now, and will be using when Beyond Light hits:

1. Hollow Words (Season of Arrivals) – Feeding Frenzy/Vorpal

I know they’re not in the strongest position, but I love me some solid fusion rifles in PvE. And Hollow Words is the first one that can roll with Vorpal, so I slap a boss spec on it and it’s almost like my beloved Loaded Question. Feeding Frenzy is fun when you’re using it for orange bar cleanup instead, and it can’t get Auto-Loading so here we are.

2. Whispering Slab (Season of Arrivals) – Archer’s Tempo/Vorpal

I have used this goofy looking bow a ton this season, as the draw time is very, very low in the grand scheme of bows, and they’re in a pretty good place overall. I like Vorpal on most things, but it works for champions and enemies in super in PvP. You may want Sympathetic Arsenal instead in the last slot. This bow just feels great in this slot for a lot of activities, and I’m definitely going to be using it for Beyond Light.

3. Seventh Seraph Carbine (Season of the Worthy) – Fourth Time’s the Charm/Swashbuckler

This is part of my pretty specific Warmind Cell/War Rig Titan build, and Warmind Cells are going to be even more relevant than ever going forward because exotics will now have a slot for those mods in Beyond Light. This weapon grew on me as a friend during those horrible public events in Worthy, and between Fourth Time and War Rig, I do not reload it often.

4. Seventh Seraph CQC-12 (Season of the Worthy) – Auto-Loading Holster/Vorpal

Man, what a gun. ALH with Vorpal and Boss Spec plus it generates Warmind Cells? And it’s a lightweight frame on top of that? This is my all-time favorite PvE legendary shotgun, and I hope it comes back for people who have missed out on it to date. (Update: aha, I guess it still is in focused Umbrals)

5. Gnawing Hunger (Season of Arrivals era) – Subsistence/Rampage

I mean, it’s not the most original pick, but Gnawing Hunger is just too good to ignore, even if it’s not generating Warmind Cells. Subsistence is my pick for PvE, but if we’re talking PvP, it would be Zen Moment in that slot instead. I don’t know if this archetype is going to be nerfed in Beyond Light, but if not, this will remain a beast.

6. Falling Guillotine (Season of Arrivals) – Relentless Strikes/Whirlwind Blade

Speaking of beasts, even if we’re getting a chainsaw sword next season, if you don’t want to take up an exotic slot, it stands to reason that unless it gets nerfed (again) that Falling Guillotine will still be a hugely important major/champion/boss killing heavy in Beyond Light, and it’s one of the strongest weapons I think the game has ever seen.

7. Breachlight (Season of Dawn) – Demolitionist/Vorpal

This is one of my favorite guns in Destiny history. Used with my Hunter sidearm build, which I had even before Surprise Attack was a thing, given that Surprise Attack is not a temporary mod, this is still going to be incredibly strong going forward with the ability to maintain that build. There are a few sidearms that are going to be strong, but none with Vorpal and with Boss Spec and Charged Magazine, trust me, this thing is practically a heavy.

8. First In, Last Out (Season of Arrivals) – Auto-loading Holster/Vorpal

Same roll as my Seraph CQC, but for a non-Warmind Cell build. I don’t think people have fully understood the magnitude of the buff to slug shotguns in PvE, and this remnant of Titan does hilariously huge damage to yellow bars with precision hits, and is just an absolute blast to use all around. Give it a shot, no pun intended.

Those are my eight favorites. What are yours? Let me know on Twitter.
