It seems Donald Trump is targeting anyone who disagrees or has previously disagreed with him and his administration. This time, the person who has become a victim of the US President’s actions is former FBI Director James Comey.
Comey is no stranger to Trump’s efforts to damage his reputation. Since 2017, Trump has sought to have him investigated for allegedly authorising the leaking of controversial memos that portray Trump as guilty in the Mueller case. Now, he is working behind the scenes and potentially trying to influence how the authorities deal with his matter.
On September 21, 2025, Trump, on Truth Social (a social media platform majorly owned by him), said that he wished Comey, Senator Adam Schiff, and General Letitia James to be tried in court. He called them “guilty as hell” and remarked that the inaction in their cases is damaging the Republicans’ “reputation” and “credibility.” He also made snide remarks at the individuals and highlighted how they have attacked him in the past by coming for his position. He said:
“They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!”
Not long after Trump’s post, around September 25, 2025, reports emerged that the DOJ was considering charging Comey for his alleged involvement in the leaks. Comey had previously denied any involvement in the matter under oath in both 2017 and 2020. However, over the years, many influential people, especially Republicans, have portrayed him as guilty. This is to say that most of them believe that he is lying and are therefore calling for legal action to hold him accountable for his alleged dishonesty.
With the DOJ’s alleged reconsideration of Comey’s case, one cannot help but notice their selective outrage over the matter. While several important legal proceedings never see the light of day, the one that has gained momentum is the one that troubles Trump the most.
