The 'dazzling' illuminations less than two hours from Manchester

An award-winning wildlife park has seen the return of its annual Christmas spectacular - complete with a light and lantern festival.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park switched on more than 100,000 light bulbs last night, November 18, marking the beginning of its Winter Illumination display.

The illuminations trail, which is largest light exhibit in Yorkshire, creates a memorable, atmospheric walk through the park, at Branton, Doncaster.

And it is less than two hours away from families living in Manchester.

The display includes a giant T Rex dinosaur, light-up animals, step-on light pads, immersive rainbow lights and many other light creations.

Ideal for families ahead of Christmas, it is open to the public and takes between 60 and 90 minutes to complete.

Chris White, Head of Guest Experience at the park said: “We are incredibly excited to have the delight of hosting Winter Illuminations this year again.

“Visitors will be overwhelmed by these giant displays. They truly are breath-taking and we are delighted that we have been able to host the Illuminations.

“The displays will install the magic of Christmas for our visitors here at the park and we can’t wait for everyone to see it over the coming weeks.”

The trail begins at the Yorkshire Hive and continues up to the Wallaby Walkabout with visitors experiencing four major themes - Under the Sea, World of Fantasy, Animal Adventure and Fairy-tale Kingdom – along the route.

Families are offered hot food and drinks to keep warm throughout the trail.

Entry is by advanced booking only.

The park will also be hosting a Christmas fair across four dates in December - the 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th.

When will the Winter Illuminations be running?

The trail will operate on various dates throughout November, December and early January.

Thursday 18th November until Sunday 21st November 2021.

Friday 26th November until Sunday 28th November 2021.

Friday 3rd December until Sunday 9th January 2022.

Prices are £20 for adults, £18 for senior citizens or students and £17 for children aged 3-15.

Children under 2 go free.
