The data which hints at an immediate impact for Rodrigo at Leeds United this season

Leeds United are counting down the days to their long-awaited Premier League return, with this weekend marking the first season in the top-flight for 16 years.

Marcelo Bielsa's side face a baptism of fire with their first clash being at Anfield against defending champions Liverpool, where a number of players could make their debut.

The biggest addition for the Whites so far this summer, and indeed the most-expensive addition in the club's history, was the capture of Spain international Rodrigo.

Linked with the likes of Barcelona as recently as January, the 29-year-old is a player Leeds fans have high expectations for ahead of his maiden campaign.

However, many players that come to the Premier League, particularly from abroad, often struggle with the rigours and intensity of the division, which leads manage clubs to signing 'Premier League proven' players.

With the signing of Rodrigo, Leeds elected not to go down this route - and the data suggests that it was a very wise move from the club.

A study from Bet O’Clock looked at the first campaign of every striker signed by Premier League clubs over the past 10 seasons, with signings from La Liga contributing to an average of 0.441 goals per game - narrowly behind Holland's Eredivisie at 0.442 per game.

Considering each forward’s goals and assists across all competitions with their new team, sharpshooters from Spain, which includes the likes of Manchester City's Sergio Aguero, quickly establish themselves in Premier League football.

The return is significantly higher than purchases from other Premier League sides, who contribute 0.360 goals per game, showing that the 'proven' method is a myth.

Judging by this data, if Rodrigo follows the same trend then he is predicted to hit around 15 goals in the Premier League - which will be invaluable to Bielsa's side.
