The Cure announce first North American tour in 7 years

NEW YORK — The Cure will play their first North American tour since 2016 this summer, highlighted by three shows at Madison Square Garden in mid-June.

The British rock band’s 30-concert “Shows of a Lost World” tour will closely resemble their 2016 journey across North America. It will begin May 10 in New Orleans and end July 1 in Miami.

The Cure will play Madison Square Garden on June 18, 20 and 21. The opening act for the entire run will be longtime Cure tour partners The Twilight Sad, one of Smith’s favorite bands.

Smith has teased a new album, to be called “Songs of a Lost World,” for years, but it remains unreleased. The Cure’s most recent album, “4:13 Dream,” came out in 2008.

However, on the band’s recent European tour, which ended in December, they played a few songs from the reportedly upcoming album, according to NME magazine.

Though The Cure last toured North America in 2016, they played three music festival dates in 2019 — two shows at Austin City Limits and one at the Rose Bowl for Pasadena Daydream.

The Cure teased Thursday’s tour announcement in a tweet on Monday.

“If you haven’t had any emails from us over the last 6 months, make sure you sign up to The Cure mailing list ASAP — Be the first to get new announcements,” the tweet read, along with a hashtag #ShowsOfALostWorld23.

New York is one of two cities where The Cure will play three shows in 2023. The band will also perform three times at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles from May 23-25.

Beginning Monday, tickets will be available through Ticketmaster’s verified fan system — the same system that was ridiculed for failing Taylor Swift fans in late 2022.

“The Cure have agreed on all ticket prices, and apart from a few Hollywood Bowl charity seats, there will be no ‘platinum’ or ‘dynamically priced’ tickets on this tour,” the band said.
