The Crown star Josh O'Connor says playing Prince Charles turned him into a royalist

The Crown season 3 star Josh O'Connor says playing Prince Charles has turned him into a royalist.

The God's Own Country and The Durrells actor has revealed how he has now lost his republican sentiment since playing the Prince of Wales on the Netflix drama.

"I guess I'm republican in nature, but I'd say I've gone full circle and become a royalist, which is the first time I've said that," he told The Telegraph Magazine.

The actor also revealed his views on the heir to the British throne going into making The Crown too.

He added: "I always had in mind a Spitting Image version of him as a bumbling caricature, a bit of a national joke, so in that sense I wasn't interested."

O'Connor has also been seen on set filming scenes for the third season with Call the Midwife actress Emerald Fennell as Camilla Shand - his later second wife and future Duchess of Cornwall - and also with newcomer Emma Corrin as his first wife, Lady Diana Spencer , for the fourth season.

Behind the scenes photos also to play the controversial Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher for episodes in the fourth run of the hit show.
