The Corvette ZR1X Is Officially America's Quickest Production Car: 1.68 Seconds

THE BREAKDOWN:

  • The Chevrolet Corvette recently completed the quarter mile in 8.675 seconds.
  • In the same run, it sprinted from zero to 60 miles per hour in 1.68 seconds.
  • It achieved those numbers with the stock aero configuration and the standard Michelin PS4S tires.

There's no debate: the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X is officially America’s quickest production car. The automaker tested its supercar back in October, where it completed the quarter mile in 8.675 seconds at 159 miles per hour.

In the same run, the ZR1X sprinted from zero to 60 mph in 1.68 seconds. According to Chevy, the Corvette hit 60 mph in less than 100 feet while generating 1.75G of acceleration force. Impressive.

The Corvette ZR1X pairs a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter LT7 V8 engine with an electric motor on the front axle, producing a combined 1,250 horsepower. Power goes to all four wheels. Chevrolet completed the run in its standard aero configuration and tune with the standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires equipped.

The sub-9.0-second time wasn’t just a one-off fluke, either. Chevy claims that the Corvette ZR1X "completed multiple back-to-back quarter-mile runs all under 8.8 seconds."

"When we made the revolutionary shift to a mid-engine platform, this is the type of performance we knew was possible," said General Motors President Mark Reuss.

The ZR1X is the latest Corvette to return a sub-3.0-second 0-60 time. The Corvette Stingray with the Z51 Performance Package can hit 60 in just 2.9 seconds. The ZR1 needs just 2.3 seconds to hit 60 mph.

Motor1’s Take: Chevrolet once again proves America’s sports car is an unbeatable value, keeping up with and even beating supercars and hypercars that are far more expensive. The Bugatti Tourbillon, which starts at around $5 million, takes 8.8 seconds to complete the quarter mile and 1.9 seconds to hit 60, yet the American sports car is quicker and cheaper.
