'The club is in turmoil' - Chris Sutton slams West Ham fans amid relegation fears

Chris Sutton has laid into the West Ham fans as the club battle to stave off relegation.

Manuel Pellegrini was sacked by the club's hierarchy following a poor start to the season and the Hammers turned to former boss David Moyes to steady the ship.

However, the former Everton and Manchester United boss has masterminded just one win in six Premier League games - his first in charge - and they exited the FA Cup at the hands of Championship leaders West Bromwich Albion.

The Hammers are in the relegation zone with 13 games of the campaign to go and in need of a spark to lift them out of trouble.

Premier League top scorer: Who leads the race for the golden boot?

That spark is not coming from the players, or the fans though, with former Chelsea striker Sutton taking aim at the supporters for their negativity towards the club's board.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live's Monday Night Club, Sutton said: "It's not an easy place to play is it.

"The problem at the club at the moment is everybody is blaming each other and that's a massive probelm.

"It's a club in turmoil. I've got sympathy for the owners because the fans aren't helping. Moaning and groaning and giving the players stick is not helping the team at this moment in time.

"I think there are massive problems, it's only going to get worse with the fixtures coming up.

"However bad it's been, however bad they're performing they need the fans, whether they're angry about the stadium, the owners, the managerial appointment, they have to get behind the team."

But fellow pundit Ian Wright, a former Hammer, believes it is up to the players to sort the atmosphere out.

He said: "There's nothing about the way West Ham are playing at home [to get behind], they're turning up in numbers.

"If the players will just give them something, they will get behind them. They will at West Ham, I've seen it."
