Is there a more beloved takeaway food than good old fish and chips?
Now that we're enjoying some sunshine (finally), there's nothing quite like grabbing takeaway fish and chips to make you feel those summer vibes.
Likewise, with nightlife starting to make a return, we defy you to find a better post-pub meal than a nice big bag of chips and curry sauce to soak up all those beers when you've had one too many.
And here in Newport, we reckon we've got some of the finest chippies there are.
But don't just take our word for it. Try out some of our favourites below for yourself and see what you think.
Vacara's

Arguably one of Newport's most iconic takeaway spots, Vacara's has been a feature of the city for more than 130 years.
Originally opened by Tomaso Vacara back in 1888, not much has changed about this institution, which remains in the hands of the original owner's family to this day.

Alonzi Fish & Chips
Another Newport institution, Alonzi's has served the city with the best fish and chips for more than 40 years.
Opened back in 1977, the Caerleon Road chippy has a legion of loyal customers.

Pie Corner Fish Bar

Even before munching on their delicious fish and chips, Pie Corner Fish Bar gets top marks for its name.
Situated in Pye Corner (get it?), the shop takes pride in its freshly cooked offerings. Plus, it has a great range of options for people with dietary requirements, including vegan and gluten-free.

Sheppards Fish Bar

A relative newcomer compared to others in Newport's chippy scene, the fact that it has already developed such a loyal customer base should tell you everything you need to know.
Attracting visitors from outside of Newport, Sheppards is a must-try in the city's collection of great fish and chip shops.

Eshaal's Fish & Chips

Another newcomer here which, like Sheppards, has developed a loyal following.
Offering up massive portions of thickly battered cod, it's not hard to see why. Plus, they offer delivery as far out as Risca and Cwmbran, which is a massive bonus.
Bina's Fish & Chip Shop

This Stow Hill chippy is for those among you who just love a bit of curry sauce slathered on your fish and chips.
Offering up traditional chippy fare alongside Indian dishes such as madras and onion bajis, Bina's is a great shout if you're fancying a mix of everything.

Somerton Cod'n'Chips
Another great spot to hit when you just can't decide what it is you want to eat and you just fancy a bit of everything.
Serving up delicious, golden fish and chips alongside an impressive selection of curries, from korma to vindaloo, Somerton offers a great fusion of Indian and Welsh dishes for when you want the best of both worlds.
Page's Fish & Chips
Attracting regular customers from Newport to Ebbw Vale, is there anyone in Gwent who hasn't tried this legendary chippy at least once? If you haven't, you need to remedy that as soon as possible.
We know it's not actually in Newport, but it's so good we felt it had to be included. If you do fancy travelling just that bit further, you're in for a treat with Page's deliciously fresh and flaky cod, which saw it being named as one of the best chippies in the whole of the UK a few years back.
