The Chase contestant leaves viewers stunned with shocking confession

The Chase fans were left stunned after one contestant revealed she wasn't a 'quizzer' despite taking part in the game show.

Host Bradley Walsh introduced Monday nights round of contestants Laura, Jill, Jermaine and Dan who would battle it out against Chaser Shaun Wallace for their cash prize. PHD student Laura was first up and left Bradley stunned with her confession.

"Welcome to the show Laura, first out of the bat. Are you a quizzer?" Bradley asks. In response, she said: "No, not at all. Dunno why I'm here."

The audience couldn't hold back their laughter after her admission, leaving Bradley feeling dismayed as he said: "That's not really what we wanted to hear from the first player up is it? Oh well that's the way it goes."

He continues: "What do you do for a living?" Laura reveals she is two years into her PHD studying criminology at Durham University.

Bradley continued getting to know Laura and asked her what her hobbies are, to which she replied: “I really like baking - especially eating what I bake.”

Bradley went on: “When you say baking what do you mean, cakes?”

“I quite like baking bread - breads my thing,” she said. Smirking to the camera, Bradley asked: “Did you bring any with you?”

“No” she replied. “What?” Bradley proclaimed before adding “What’s the matter with these contestants on the show?”

Laura soon fired back though, insisting: “I’ve come all the way from Durham.” But Bradley wasn’t having it, as he quipped: “I don’t care.”

Laura headed into the main game with £4,000 after refusing a high offer of £21,000 and a low offer of £400. Unfortunately for her, she found herself caught by The Dark Destroyer after stumbling on a few questions.

As a result, Laura was booted from the show. However, the remaining three contestants managed to get through to the final chase.

Jill and Jermaine both bagging £1,000 for the joint jackpot. Dan then scooped £8,000 in his round - making the total joint jackpot a cool £10,000.

Despite making it through to the final round, the team didn’t manage to beat the Chaser after only scoring 13 questions answered correctly.

Fans took to Twitter after the show aired as they couldn't get over Laura's confession. One joked: "“Are you a quizzer?” “No not really “ “Why are you here?” “Dunno” This should go well. #TheChase."

""Are you a quizzer?" "No not at all...." Umm did you think this was bake-off? #thechase," wrote another. A third tweeted: "Are you a quizzer? No. Fuck off then. #TheChase."

The Chase airs weekdays on STV at 5pm.
