Viewers of ITV’s new dating series The Cabins have complained that one of the show’s unusual rules is “ruining” the experience for them.
In the programme, which airs on ITV2, contestants are matched with a blind date, spending the night with them in a shared cabin.
Somewhat controversially, contestants are allowed access to their mobile phones throughout the episodes, allowing them to correspond with friends and family about their dates.
During the first episode, some viewers were surprised as they watched contestants Abraham and Sofia begin texting during an awkward moment.
Others, such as Sarah, were also shown to be using their phones throughout much of the episode.
Writing on social media, The Cabin viewers voiced their objection to the decision to allow mobile phone use on the series, which is often strictly regulated on similar reality series such as Love Island.
“Someone take their phones off them, annoying me already!” complained one viewer.
“For god’s sake take their phones away and make it interesting!” wrote another.
“I’m not loving the phone convos with outside people, ngl,” wrote someone else. “Should be like a weekly call or something. #TheCabins”
“The use of phones in this show is utterly cringe,” argued another viewer, while others claimed that the phones were “ruining it”.
The Cabins continues every day this week on ITV2 at 9pm.
