The Block’s Britt & Taz Share Their Theory On Why The Finale Tanked & How To Fix The Show

The Block winners 2025

Following the dismal finale of The Block, everyone’s mouthing off about why 2025’s Auction Day was such a flop, including the real estate agents who handled the final auctions, old mate Adrian Portelli, and the contestants themselves.

One of the main theories is that the location let the teams down, given that Daylesford, which is 114km out of Melbourne with just 3,000 locals, isn’t exactly known for splashy million-dollar auctions.

So how exactly can The Block fix things next year?

Well, according to Britt and Taz, the couple who actually did well this season, the series is already on track to fix things with its new location: Mount Eliza, Melbourne’s affluent seaside suburb.

“It would probably be a great direction if it did go a little bit towards the more neutral buyers. Like, we were lucky enough to, yesterday, we sold to a beautiful Melbourne family, which is great,” Taz told Chattr.

“But, you look to next year and it’s a Mount Eliza on the beach with views of the ocean and the city. I don’t think it’s going to be in the reach of your everyday, sort of people, certainly not for the people that we are.”

While Taz reckons next year’s reserve prices will be through the roof, he says future seasons should focus on renos that actually sell at a more realistic price — something regular Aussies could actually afford.

“[The Mount Eliza houses are] going to be monster reserves and monster auctions. But, you know, looking past that, there’s every chance it could, but I just don’t see it going in that direction [next year].”

Elsewhere in their interview with Chattr, they revealed that only a few fellow contestants attended their post-Auction Day celebrations.

“It was hard to celebrate. Like, all these people who we’d become friends with, you know, they didn’t get rewarded for their hard work as well,” Britt explained.

Ben and Em came to our house as well and had a couple of drinks, which was great, and they spent most of the night, as well. We had a really good time, and they’re the most beautiful people.

“We did see Robby and Mat for a fair bit as well, which is great to have a chat with them and really sort of console them a bit as well… It was bittersweet.”

Britt went on to say that although their other co-stars weren’t able to attend the festivities, they were still congratulatory.

“Our hearts were breaking for them. But you know what? Everyone was still genuinely, really beautiful, and were like, ‘Congratulations — you guys deserve it. Don’t let this take the moment away from you.’ So everyone was still very, very supportive,” Britt said.

Speaking to realestate.com.au after the finale, auctioneer David Holmes also opined that the location was a major drawback.

“I really feel as though the supply-and-demand scenario wasn’t looked at as efficiently or as accurately as it should have been,” he said.

“You are looking at five properties that they’re asking essentially $3 million to $3.5 million in a market where $2.7 million is a really high price for a very stunning architectural home.”

As for Adrian Portelli, he’s been on quite the media blitz following The Block finale — which he was rumoured to be banned from.

In a spicy interview with news.com.au, Portelli slammed The Block as “completely out of touch and unrealistic” for everyday Aussies.

“They’re completely out of touch and unrealistic,” Portelli told the publication.

The Block pitches themselves as a good opportunity for families to buy these famous homes, but these houses aren’t built for everyday Australians. They are meant for the super-rich,” Portelli continued.

“Who is going to go and bid on them when they know they’re competing against billionaires? These houses aren’t targeted at everyday Aussies. They’re multimillion-dollar homes.”

Applications are now open for The Block 2026, so if you think you’ve got what it takes to build a sellable home in Mount Eliza, have at it!
