The Democrats are as shocked as the Republicans are following the developments that occurred on Friday after New York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani met United States President Donald Trump at the White House for a meeting.
The internet has been abuzz since November 21st with discussions surrounding Donald Trump and Zohran Mamdani’s fateful meeting at the White House. For those who have been following closely (I am sure many are), Mamdani and Trump’s feud in the lead-up to the New York City mayoral elections, which Mamdani won, has been one for the history books. There have been constant accusations, insults, name-calling, and a plethora of hateful memes shared(mostly from Trump’s side).
However, when the two appeared in front of the media to take questions following their meeting on Friday, a rare thing happened: Donald Trump, in a long, long time, felt comfortable in the presence of a Democrat. He wasn’t cutting them off or picking at them. Instead, he was attentive, respectful, and considerate. One could even say it was the calmest he has ever looked in a long, long time. It was almost as if he were under a spell. From what I have understood, the new NY mayor is a very charismatic individual who could even convince me that the earth was flat if I weren’t introduced to this very interesting thing called science back in the day, but I suspect that Zohran performed some kind of sorcery to get Trump to giggle and smile as he called him a “fascist” and criticized the current administration’s stance on Israel, among other things. He even got him to vouch for him, with Donald Trump at one point admitting that he would love to live in New York with Zohran Mamdani as the mayor. He boldly said:
“I just wanna congratulate, I think you (referring to journalists) are gonna have, hopefully, a really great mayor. The better he does, the happier I am. I will say this: there is no difference in party. There’s no difference in anything, and we’re gonna be helping him to make everybody’s dream come true of having a strong and very safe New York.”
Trump’s personality makeover during his meeting with Mamdani has got everyone talking. Many are jokingly requesting that Mamdani hold another meeting with Trump to guarantee Americans affordable healthcare. Others are appreciating the mayor-elect for holding his ground in front of the President, and calling him a “true leader.”
