The best room to dry your clothes after doing laundry to avoid mould growing in your home

An expert has shared the best room to dry your clothes indoors to avoid mould.

Drying clothes outside is near impossible as the autumn weather kicks in and wind and rain become a more prominent feature on the weather forecast

But this comes as energy bills are increasing vastly, which means using a dryer is certain to increase our electricity bills as the cost of living bites.

A clotheshorse is the most efficient option over the coming months, but it too can bring potential problems.

RSVPLive reports wet clothes release damp into the air which can cause mould to grow, and without a properly ventilated room, clothes can take too long to dry and start to harden and smell.

Laurence Smith, a n expert at 'In The Wash' said drying our clothes indoors is fast becoming the most feasible option of the next few months.

But choosing where to dry your washing will have a big impact on other parts of your home.

Laurence told the Daily Express: “Drying clothes indoors is not ideal because wet clothes release damp into the air which can lead to mould growth.

"However, it’s not unsafe to do so as long as your home is well-ventilated. Luckily, you can take steps to reduce the moisture in the air,”

Laurence said “Avoid drying laundry in the bathroom as it’s already a damp space and you don’t want to add more humidity to the air. Plus, clothes will take longer to dry in an already-damp room.

“If you have a dedicated laundry room, a spare room or garage, this is the best place to dry your clothes.

“Use a drying rack and place it in a room that you use infrequently, such as a laundry room, spare room or even dining room.

The Mirror reported how one woman, who had been struggling to keep on top of her laundry, found a smart hack for drying clothes cheaply in just two hours

Postwoman Alix Byrne, who lives in a one-bedroom apartment with her boyfriend Andrew, found she just couldn't find the space to hang out her clothes, despite having numerous airers.

However, inspiration struck one day while the 24-year-old was putting out her bedding to dry, in what she's since described as her "eureka moment".

Alix recalled: "I was trying to find where else to hang the bed sheet to dry, apart from over the kitchen door which ends up smelling of whatever you’re cooking.

"I usually keep my clothes frame by the radiator, especially in winter and I just thought 'why not throw the bedsheet over the frame, tuck the ends behind the radiator and under the stands then the hot air from the radiator will dry my clothes in hours.'

She added: "I think the reason this hack would benefit people is it saves money on tumble drying. [...] It saves up space as your clothes would be dry within hours and the clothes horse can be packed away again and into the cupboard."
