The best relationships in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ranked

No single reason can explain the immense popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one key factor has to be the enduring strength of the relationships between key characters.

Over the past decade,  Marvel has found ways to twist and evolve existing friendships, create brand new bonds, and revive dormant connections that have kept fans coming back not just because they love the superhero spectacle, but because they’re emotionally invested in the characters and storylines.

Segments of movie goers may crave more traditional (i.e heterosexual) romances in the movies, but Marvel’s ability to prioritize other relationships—outside of the tired boyfriend/girlfriend dynamic—has been one of the keys to the franchise’s longevity. Sure, people have a soft spot for Steve and Peggy or Wanda and Vision, but those romantic relationships aren’t the driving factor behind so much of the MCU. It’s the other relationships, between, friends, siblings and even frenemies, that are the real heart of the MCU. With that in mind, here’s a look at the 10 best relationships in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
