The best places to get your Christmas Day lunch in Manchester

While slaving over a hot stove is great, there’s an argument that on Christmas Day, perhaps someone else could do the hard work for you instead. There are loads of options for a Christmas Day feast, from the traditional to the less traditional, and best of all, none of them involve you even looking at a baking tray.

Ducie Street Warehouse

The stately Ducie Street Warehouse is open for business on Christmas Day, and is offering up its extra special festive dining menu. Starters include a warming, spiced parsnip hummus with flatbread and salt & pepper calamari, while for your main course there’s a turkey saltimbocca, miso and honey glazed cod and a roasted sweet potato wellington. Or you can just go for a flat iron steak and bone marrow gravy, with a tiramisu or a poached pear for pudding.

The stylish Osma in Prestwich (Manchester Evening News)

Osma

Prestwich’s favourite Scandi-inspired eatery offers a few options for the big day. You can head to the restaurant, and start things off with a glass of Cremant before lunging at a ham hock terrine and Goosnargh turkey, corn fed good, mushroom pithivier or a fillet of heritage beef. Alternatively, they’re doing cook at home kits too - sirloin of beef, turkey or a root vegetable pie - with all the trimmings.

Zouk (ZOUK)

Zouk

An eastern feast awaits at Zouk, from its sumptuous biryanis and handis, to its gourmet burgers and shawarmas. But as it’s Christmas, the city centre favourite also has a sturdy range from its grill, including a tomahawk steak, rib eyes, fillets and t-bones.

Starters include a twice-baked Lancashire cheese souffle, a chicken terrine with chicken fat parsnips and roast heritage beetroot. For the main event, there’s a ballotine of turkey, roast beef and halibut, with classics like a Christmas pudding and sherry trifle, but with a swish twist.

20 Stories

Christmas Day with one of the best views in the city, the 20 Stories festive lunch looks to be a cracker (ahem). Executive chef Daniel Scott has devised it, with highlights including a goats cheese mousse, sea bream with fennel, and roasted Cheshire turkey with a truffled pomme puree. There’s a wine pairing too, and a kids and vegan menu.

Christmas at San Carlo (MEN)

San Carlo

An Italian Christmas - buon natale, as they say over there - at San Carlo is a classy affair, with both lunch and dinner on offer. There’s Tuscan chicken liver pate, prawns with garlic, chilli and tomato and beef fillet carpaccio, while for the main courses, there’s halibut, slow cooked lamb shoulder, and tagliolini with lobster. You can head back there for New Year’s Eve too.

Peter Street Kitchen at The Edwardian Manchester (Andrew Beasley)

Peter Street Kitchen

The smart Peter Street Kitchen, at the infamous Free Trade Hall, is pulling out all the stops for the big day, and while its usual menu is a fusion of Mexican and Japanese, the Christmas lunch is a little more traditional. There’s a baked lobster with parmesan cream to start, and then the likes of dover sole, baby chicken and an aged beef wellington, all served with honey glazed carrots and cauliflower cheese.
