The best nicknames the Royal Family have given each other

It may surprise you to learn the Royal Family have nicknames for one another just like any other family.

They range from the heartwarming to referring to the Monarch as a "cabbage" and "sausage”.

With that in mind, the Daily Star has compiled a list of nicknames the Royals have, from “Wombat” to “Di 2”.

The Queen

She was famously called “Lilibet” growing up by her family because she couldn’t pronounce her name “Elizabeth” properly as a child.

Prince Philip is reported to call her “Cabbage” and some even claim, “Sausage”.

William and Kate

Prince William was given the nickname ‘Wombat’ as a child by his mum Princess Diana but admitted in a 2007 interview the name has stuck.

“I can’t get rid of it now,” he said.

“It began when I was two. I’ve been rightfully told because I can’t remember back that far, but when we went to Australia with our parents, and the wombat, you know, that’s the local animal, so I just basically got called that, not because I look like a wombat, or maybe I do.”

Will's wife Kate, however, has a much more normal nickname given to her by brother-in-law Prince Harry – Cath.

The Duchess has also revealed that growing up she was called “Squeak”.

Harry and Meghan

“Spike” is reported to have been Harry’s former Facebook alter ego, when he set up a social media account under a fake name.

His brother Will has hinted at other nicknames we’ll never know.

When asked on NBC, Will said: “Most of them I can’t call in front of here. You know, (they’re) a bit rude.”

Meghan Markle has reportedly been called “Tungsten” by Prince Charles due to her strength and “Di 2” by Palace staff.

A source once said: “I’ve heard the duchess is referred to as Di 2, because of the similarities to Harry’s mother.
