New York. Mr and Mrs Little (Hugh Laurie and Geena Davis) return from the city orphanage with a new baby brother for their son George (Jonathan Lipnicki). After school, George rushes in the front door, then into the living room, his excitement obvious.
"Mom! Dad! I'm home! Is he here? Is my brother here?"
"He certainly is," his mother smiles.
"Where? Where is he?"
She turns him around until he faces a table in the corner of the room. Standing on top is a small mouse in dapper shirt and tie: Stuart Little (voiced by Michael J Fox).
"Stuart, this is George. George, this is Stuart. Your new brother."
George looks blank.
"No, really?"
"Really, George," Mr Little explains. "This is your new brother."
Stuart waves timidly at George. George peers back at him.
"You look somewhat like a mouse."
Stuart gives a nervous laugh.
"I am somewhat like a mouse."
"I see," says George. "I have to go."
He walks out of the room, slamming the door behind him. Stuart flinches.
"Is it me, or did he seem a little disappointed?"
