The best eco-friendly Christmas presents to buy for your kids

Everyone loves seeing the excited look on their kid's face as they rip open their Christmas presents.

But with the government declaring a climate emergency this year, it's important to think of your carbon footprint while out buying gifts.

Plastic toys shipped across the world are a big contributor to carbon emmissions.

But while parents try and be eco-friendly, there's also the pressure of not having much time to hunt around as families attempt to fit in  shopping around their busy schedules.

So we have rounded-up all of the best gifts to buy your little one that doesn't break the planet.

Charity shops

A sustainable alternative to our throwaway culture, there's a wealth of surprises to be found in the city's charity shops.

Gloucester Road has lines of the stores close together which makes hunting for the perfect gift even easier.

As well as reusing items that might others have gone to landfill, the shops also fund some of Bristol's most important causes, from St Peter's Hospice to Cancer Research.

Goodies from Personalised Gifts Shop

From reusable straws to bamboo rainbow toothbrushes  and quirky reusable travel cups, this shop offers an extensive list of options which could be used for stocking fillers.

Lush Merry and Bright Gift Set

(Lush)

Lush has been pushing sustainability since its launch in 1995, all of the company’s products are created to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

And what child doesn't love a bath bomb to end their day or some nice-smelling lip balm?

Purchase sustainable crackers

The little presents which pop out of crackers during the festive meal are a big highlight for most kids.

But most of them are filled with plastic toys that are not good for our planet.

Never fear, because there are a range of more sustainable options on the market.

These include recyclable crackers from Love Tiki  or  reusable crackers from Keep This Cracker , which allow you to pick your own gifts.

Eco-friendly wrapping paper

Of course every present has to be wrapped but rather than using rolls of brightly coloured paper why not use brown recyclable paper and newspapers?

Tied with stylish ribbons, this could look equally as appealing to kids and would go a long way towards reducing your carbon footprint.

According to Envirowaste, over the Christmas period 83 sq km of wrapping paper will be thrown out or burnt in the UK.

Experience gifts

Why not treat your child to an inspiring trip to the theatre or a fun filled day trip to a theme park?

Experience gifts can be an exciting day out for the whole family and something that can create memories they'll remember all their life.
