The best Bristol restaurants open on New Year's Day

You're hungover, all the leftovers have finally run out and you can't be bothered to head to the shops.

It's New Year's Day and there's only one thing for it: it's time to head out for a meal.

While the majority of restaurants across Bristol close on January 1 with it being a bank holiday, there are a few which open their doors so we don't have to worry about cooking.

Take a look at the list below to see some of the best options - and Happy New Year!

The Ivy Clifton Brasserie

Where: Caledonia Place, Clifton

The plush Ivy Clifton Brasserie will be serving its brunch menu between 9am - 11pm.

The brunch menu includes a range of tempting options including truffle arancini, salt crushed sourdough bread and salted smoked almonds.

Hotel du Vin

Where: Narrow Lewins Mead, city centre / Sion Hill, Clifton

Both the Hotel du Vin in the city centre and at Avon Gorge will be open for lunch and dinner on New Year's Day, serving their full menus.

Expect to find a hearty range of options with classic dishes including steaks, casserole, fresh fish and vegetarian choices.

Urban Tandoor

Where: Small St, BS1 1DE

Few restaurants in Bristol have won as many awards as Urban Tandoor and it's easy to see why.

The Small Street curry house serves delicious dishes at reasonable prices, and it's opening on New Year's Day between 5pm and 10.30pm for those who want to find out first hand why it's so highly regarded.

Miller & Carter

Where: Marriott Bristol Royal, College Green

If you're looking to kick off the new year with a huge slab of meat, Miller & Carter is a very decent option.

The steak house in the Marriott Hotel on College Green will be serving its succulent steaks on January 1 - although bear in mind that the restaurant's fixed price lunch menu will not be available.

Salt & Malt

Where: Wapping Wharf

Salt & Malt serves some of the best fish and chips anywhere in Bristol, and you'll be able to get your chops around them on New Year's Day, serving between midday and 6pm.

The Coconut Tree

Where: Cheltenham Road

The Coconut Tree has made quite an impression since launching on Cheltenham Road but if you haven't sampled its delicious Sri Lankan food yet, why not do so on the first day of 2020? It still has a number of evening tables free.

Asado

Where: Colston Street

Asado on Colston Street is the city’s top option when it comes to grabbing a burger according to many burger aficionados, and this is backed up by numerous glowing reviews on TripAdvisor.

If you're craving a juicy burger to rid the hangover on New Year's Day, Asado is one of the best shouts out there.

Dhamaka

The restaurant will position itself between high-end Indian restaurants and traditional curry houses (Bristol Live)

Where: Clare Street

Described as an 'easy-going Indian’, Dhamaka specialises in Indian street food with both hearty curries and small plates to choose from.

Washed down with a range of impressive cocktails, it would be a cracking way to kick off the year.
