The Apprentice stars prove they are a 'bunch of idiots' as bosses nail casting

The Apprentice, BBC1 ★★★★

Esther McVey should buy Lord Sugar a very large drink if she ever bumps into him in a Westminster bar.

Because if he hadn’t unleashed his latest batch of candidates last night, McVey’s “3D architects” Tory conference speech would have won Most Moronic Gibberish On TV Of The Week.

Make no mistake, by the time this year’s token geezer Thomas Skinner asked his team mates, “Look, we ain’t a bunch of idiots are we?” we’d already had plenty of evidence to suggest otherwise.

One of the girls believed she was ideally qualified to run a vineyard tour in Cape Town because, “for example, I know the population of South Africa is 51 million”.

And the rest of the candidates appeared so clueless they probably thought Table Mountain was an EU furniture surplus.

In other words, it’s looking like a vintage year.

The casting department has done its job beautifully and we can laugh our heads off for the next two months knowing the contestants must have known what they were letting themselves in for.

“I’m contributing. Not interrupting.” Lottie, we thank you for your contributions.
