The Apprentice star explains the most difficult task takes place away from the cameras

The Apprentice's most difficult task takes place before the show starts filming.

The BBC business competition returned to rave reviews from fans as they lapped up the drama, shenanigans and interesting choices put forward by the fresh batch of entrepreneurs.

The candidate's end goal is to walk away with the coveted £250,000 investment and the honour of calling themselves Lord Sugar's business partner.

The entrepreneurs are thrown into the deep end each week as their personal business experience usually correlates in absolutely zero way to the task they're being presented. The show often throws interesting curveballs, but the hardest part of the entire process actually begins before the camera picks up to film.

As daunting as the end-of-term interviews may be - the candidates having to pitch their businesses to industry tycoons - the interview before the show is actually the hardest task the gang face, according to Merseyside entrepreneur Victoria Goulbourne.

The sweet shop owner told the Liverpool Echo that no challenge on the show was more of a trial than the initial casting process. She said: "It's one of the hardest interviews in the world.

"I think I felt quite prepared in the sense that I've done an Emirates interview but I remember when I was preparing for the airline, I read online that it was a very hard process as well. When I actually got to the audition, it was very much set up in the same way."

The on-camera interviews are more of a private affair but the casting process sees potential candidates surrounded by countless others. Victoria added: "You are actually in a room with, like, hundreds of other people and you all sort of go up for the same position. It was all very competitive and difficult."

Victoria said that even though she felt confident having used her Emirates interview as experience before going in, it was still a huge relief to wrap things up as this was one of the most nerve wracking moments of the show. Naturally, things went incredibly well as she bagged herself a spot on the show on her first attempt.
