The adorable new babies born on a very special birthday for the National Health Service

As the NHS turned 75, adorable babies around our region were born with no idea of the much-loved National Health Service that would be soon be looking after them.

These gorgeous youngsters might not understand the NHS's role in their lives for some years yet, but their families were - on a very special birthday - delighted to welcome them into the world. And at Sunderland Royal, the lucky little ones even grabbed some exciting customised clothing too - they were given a special "NHS75" babygrow.

One set of parents - Sophie Dennis and Chris Bardett who welcomed little Millie Grace at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington - told ChronicleLive how, with an NHS connection in the family, it was especially poignant.

Chris said: "We knew it was today, yes. Sophie's mum is a sexual health nurse in Newcastle. We were joking that the baby would either be born on Independence Day or the NHS's birthday. Sophie used to work for the NHS too so it's lovely.

"The staff here have been really great with us to be honest. They've given Sophie incredible support." Chris added the duo were looking forward to getting little baby Millie home to Killingworth.

Meanwhile, also in Cramlington parents Amy and Chris said hello for the very first time to an adorable little girl - who had yet to be named at the time of writing. And in Sunderland, three families were also delighted with bundles of joy.

Megan Middleton and Jordan Critchlow, from Hendon, welcomed Theo, at 9.55am, while Nicha Caffery and Liam Newton from Washington introduced little lad Beau to the world. Beau was born just twelve minutes before Theo.

And then, as the clock struck noon, beautiful baby Mojisola was born to delighted parents Mayowa and Kunle.

Each of these babies will - like others born on NHS anniversaries and especially those born 75 years ago today - have a special bond with the NHS. Good luck to them!
