The Academy has called out its own security team after a video of Teyana Taylor scolding a “very rude” security guard at the 2026 Oscars went viral on social media.
The clip was taken at the conclusion of the awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and sees Taylor — who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress — accusing a nearby guard of “putting your hands on a female”.
“You’re rude. You’re very rude,” she tells the guard. Some parts of the audio are muffled by the crowd, but another person is later heard saying “that was uncalled for” before Taylor claims the guard “literally shoved me”.
In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, the Academy said it was “extremely upset” to learn of the incident and said it had addressed it with their security firm, Security Industry Specialists (SIS).
“We have worked with Teyana over the last several months during awards season, and she has been nothing short of remarkable, supportive, kind, and all about community,” the Academy said.
“Though the incident was with our outside security firm SIS, the experience of every single guest is our responsibility. We have made it clear to them that this behaviour is not acceptable,” it added.
The awards body said it was taking “appropriate measures to ensure this does not happen again”.
In its own statement after the altercation, SIS said its team was managing the crowd when one guard “made incidental contact” with Taylor.
“This is not the standard of professionalism we expect from our team, and we have addressed the matter internally to help ensure situations like this do not happen again,” the security firm said.
Taylor has since spoken out after the incident, saying everything was “all good” but stressing she doesn’t “tolerate disrespect”.
“Everybody’s having a good time and you know, security was just doing a lot,” Taylor told TMZ. “The first thing people do is definitely make assumptions, but at the end of the day, I just don’t tolerate disrespect, especially when it’s unwarranted and unprovoked.”
Though she lost in her category to Weapons’ Amy Madigan, Taylor’s movie One Battle After Another won big at the Oscars yesterday, including for Best Picture and Best Director.
Elsewhere at the ceremony, Timothée Chalamet copped a few strays over all that ballet and opera drama and the Academy issued its first tie since 2012 in the Best Live Action Short Film category.
