South Tyneside now has the highest Covid infection rate in Britain as cases across the North East spiral out of control.
Previously, South Tyneside was the the most infected area in England, having leapfrogged Newcastle and the Staffordshire market town of Tamworth.
However, it has now also surpassed the Scottish city of Dundee after cases jumped by another 147.9% in a week to 935.9.

Government data shows there are almost two dozen North East postcodes where at least one in every 100 residents have the virus.
It comes just days before the Government is expected to confirm restrictions will be lifted on July 19.
Nationally, experts predict daily cases will soon surpass 100,000, while The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges warned on Saturday that there was "little doubt that things will get worse before they get better".
Despite this, deaths and hospital rates - while rising - are significantly lower than they were at this stage of previous waves, largely due to the success of vaccines.
These are the 21 North East postcodes where the infection rate is currently higher than 1,000.
