The 15 worst local areas for Covid-19 in Ireland right now

One in every 91 people in a local electoral area in Co Monaghan tested positive for Covid-19 in the space of the last fortnight

The latest Covid-19 data from local electoral areas (LEA) has been released by the HSE for the last two weeks.

With Ireland's overall incidence rate sitting at 455.0, some areas have done extremely well in having theirs far below that number.

But others have double that rate - with some LEA's even touching treble that.

Here are the worst affected spots in the country for Covid-19.

Carrickmacross-Castleblayney (Monaghan)

Carrickmacross-Castleblayney in Monaghan had the highest 14-day incidence rate in the country, in the two-week period that ended on Monday.

Its rate was 1,096 per 100,000 people — over twice the national average of 455.

Monaghan (Monaghan)

The Monaghan LEA is just below the Carrickmacross-Castleblayney rate, with 1,079 per 100k in the last two weeks.

Enniscorthy (Wexford)

The second highest in the country was Enniscorthy LEA in Co Wexford.

The south-eastern town had an astonishing rate of 1,086.

Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart (Dublin)

Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart remains the worst affected LEA in the capital with 1005.5 cases per 100,000 in the period between January 19 and February 1.

That rate means it is the fourth-worst hit area in Ireland.

Castlebar (Mayo)

One of the main towns in Mayo, Castlebar rounds out the top five in terms of worst incidence rates with 930.2

Ballyblay-Clones (Monaghan)

Monaghan remains the worst hit county in the country and Ballyblay-Clones in the county joins two other LEAs in the Farney county with an incidence rate of 915.7 - more than twice the national average.

Lucan (Dublin)

Lucan in the capital sits with an incidence rate of 852.0 - which will be concerning for health officials.

Carlow (Carlow)

Just under 200 cases in the last two weeks has seen the Carlow LEA rate increase to 834.4.

Ballymun-Finglas (Dublin)

The north Dublin region of Ballymun-Finglas has an incidence rate of 805.3

Waterford City South (Waterford)

Coming in at a joint-place with Ballymun-Finglas is Waterford City South with the Munster region mirroring the rate of 805.3.

North Inner City Dublin (Dublin)

Owing to having a high population, the north inner area of Dublin city clocks in with a rate of 787.6 in the last 14 days according to the HSE date.

Dundalk-Carlingford (Louth)

Sitting on the border with both Monaghan and the Northern Ireland border, the Dundalk-Carlingford LEA has an incidence rate of 750 on the button after 192 cases were confirmed in the last two weeks.

Waterford East (Waterford)

Unsurprisingly, given that the city of Waterford ranks highly in the table, Waterford East clocks in with a rate of 739.5

Dundalk South (Louth)

236 cases in the last two weeks has seen an increase in the rate in the Louth LEA to 727.6

Belmullet (Mayo)

Rounding out the top 15 is Belmullet in the far west of Mayo. The Connacht town has seen a slight drop in it's rate but it still sits at 722.2 - which might concern experts.
