A woman warns other shoppers who purchased Frito-Lay’s variety box after he husband made a gross discovery.
In a video with over 110,000 views, TikToker Yessi (@aquilera.yesenia) holds up a large box of Frito-Lay chips. The box includes Lay’s Classic, Doritos, Funyuns, and Cheetos.
“If you purchased one of these Back to School Mix, please be careful,” she says.
She explains that her husband opened up a bag of Doritos from the variety pack. However, when he put his hand in the bag, he felt something “squishy.”
“My husband is one of those types of people who always checks things and is really aware,” she explains. “So he checked inside the bag…”
What was inside Frito-Lay’s Doritos bag?
She grimaces as she looks into the bag before turning it to the camera. Inside the bag, several chips are covered in thick, green mold.
“I emailed Frito-Lay. Because obviously that’s gross,” she says. “They said they’re going to get back to me in two to three business days. So we’ll see what happens.”
She says she purchased the variety pack from Sam’s Club for $20 and was initially planning to return it there. However, Frito-Lay tells her to hold onto the chips while they look into the issue.
“I did not check any more baggies. We’re not going to eat them anyway,” she says.
She urges viewers to check the bags in the variety pack before eating them.
“That’s scary because kids don’t care. They just stick their hand and start eating. What if one of my kids ate one of those?” she says. “Thankfully, they’re not sick. They’ve been eating some for the past week.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, accidentally consuming mold on spoiled food may not cause symptoms. However, people who experience shortness of breath, upset stomach, or nausea should get medical attention.

What could have caused the mold?
In the comments, viewers speculate on the cause of the moldy Doritos.
“It happens dude. If a hole got punctured into the bag, somehow mold will start. It’s food,” one writes. Yessi responds, “Of course it can happen it’s life. Bag was completely sealed when opened or we would have felt it beforehand. STILL it is NOT OK! A KID could’ve ate these.”
“It could be from the pantry, keeping the box closed, it’s hot and war,m who knows. Because you said a week, so the kids have been eating it, they would’ve definitely noticed it during the day,” another says.
Some say they’ve noticed quality issues with the same variety pack.
“Our hot Cheetos from this box & the summer box were disgusting! They were so pale and flavorless. I would of just returned it to Sam’s,” a commenter writes.
“I bought a box of these and the Doritos were stale and the Cheeto puffs were hard. I was excited about this box because it actually has all the chips by family likes,” another shares.
