Thane: Drunk cop beats youths for celebrating New Year's Day on road in Ulhasnagar

ULHASNAGAR: A case of assault by a police officer on several youths, who were greeting each other on New Year's Day in Ulhasnagar, has come to light.

The youths have alleged that the police officer was drunk and after spotting them, he first tried to hit them with a motorcycle but they managed to escape.

Later the officer started to beat them one by one on the road and also abused them, they said.

After the video of the assault went viral on social media, the Thane police ordered an enquiry against the assistant police inspector Subhash Pansare who took the law in his own hands.

The incident came to light on Saturday at 1am in Kaushal Nagar area of Ulhasnagar.

According to police, Pansare was patrolling with the intention to take action against those who would violate the state government's order of not celebrating the New Year at public places and gathering in groups.

After the video went viral on social media, netizens demanded strict action against the cop saying those who are responsible for maintaining law and order should be punished for taking law in hand.

Looking at the controversy, Prashant Mohite, deputy commissioner of police, zone 4 of Thane police ordered an enquiry against Pansare.

Mohite said, “Enquiry has been ordered against Pansare and as per finding action would be taken against him”.
