(Bangkok Post)

Car production in Thailand dropped by ‌17.94% in May from a year earlier to 114,214 units, the Federation of Thai Industries said on Monday.

The decrease followed an annual dip ‌of 0.44% in April.

Domestic sales rose by 10.60% to 57,765 cars, boosted by sales of electric vehicles.

In the first five months of the year, production dropped by 1.13% from a year earlier to 587,759 vehicles, ‌the federation said.

Thailand is Southeast Asia's biggest auto production centre. It is an export base for some of the world's top carmakers, including Toyota and Honda.

The FTI has forecast car production to rise by 3% to 1.5 million units in 2026.
