Texas Chainsaw Massacre film reboot to be directed by Northern Irish brothers

Two Northern Irish brothers, Andy and Ryan Tohill, are set to direct the latest reboot of the classic horror film, Texas Chainsaw Massacre

American entertainment site Variety shared the news writing that the Belfast brothers would take the helm for the cult film reboot, which first terrified audiences in 1974.

One of the films producers, Fede Alvarez, praised the brothers as he looked ahead to the film, saying: “The Tohills’ vision is exactly what the fans want. It’s violent, exciting and so depraved that it will stay with you forever.”

Both Andy and Ryan Tohill have worked for years in the film industry. They garnered local and international success for their debut feature film, The Dig, which was shot in the countryside around Ballymena.

Telling the story of a convicted murderer forced to help search for his victim's body, it won Best Film at the 2018 Galway Film Fleadh.

Andy is a film studies graduate from Queen's University, while Ryan has a visual arts degree from Ulster University.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, which was directed by Tobe Hooper, followed two siblings and three of their friends en route to visit their grandfather’s grave in Texas, who end up falling victim to a family of cannibalistic psychopaths, with the terrifying Leatherface becoming a iconic character in the horror genre.

The original film has spawned numerous sequels and developed into a successful box office franchise, meaning that this could well turn into an even bigger success story for two local directors.
