Texans rookie TE Kahale Warring returns from non-football injury list

The competition at tight end just got thicker with Houston Texans rookie Kahale Warring coming off the non-football injury list Wednesday.

The third-round pick from San Diego State had been dealing with a strained hamstring, but was able to come off NFI and join his teammates for sixth practice of training camp.

Warring will have to play a little catch-up now that he is back in the ranks.

“As long as he’s paying attention in the meetings and in the walkthroughs — which, he can do those, the walkthroughs,” coach Bill O’Brien told reporters on July 28. “We’ll see. I guess part of it is getting caught up to speed. We’ll have to see. I don’t know. We’ll see.”

Now that Warring is on the practice field, he will compete against teammates Jordan Akins, Jordan Thomas, Jerell Adams, and Darren Fells for pecking order on the depth chart.

The former Aztec caught 31 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns in his senior season. At 6-5, 252 pounds, the Texans are hoping to utilize his size and athleticism in the passing game.
